Normal range of motion for the ankle joint

The ankle joint is a major joint in the body that allows us to walk. As the foot is placed on the ground the body moves forward over the foot at the ankle joint. As the body moves further forward over the foot, the ankle stops moving and we use the big toe joint. The normal range of motion for the ankle joint is not known. In the past most used to believe it was ten degrees movement of the foot from a right angle with the leg. However, it is now known that the normal for some people is less than this and for others it is more.
